SMOKEBRUSH GALLERY AND FOUNDATION FOR THE ARTS - SmokeBrush Gallery presents: 'Misreading the Signs' by Bill Amundson
Friday May 2 12:00 PM
Bill Amundson is one of Colorado's most renowned contemporary artists. Amundson's intricate drawings and "Suburban Regionalist" style are devoted to capturing and celebrating the true American scene rather than the idealized version so often pictured in the art of Pikes Peak region. His work reflects an interest in the contemporary American landscape through such distinct staples as the subdivision, the chain restaurant, retail franchises, interstate travel, SUV's and the ubiquitous cell phone. His work has been described in various publications as "ironic, compulsive, sweet, irreverent, whimsical, fanatical, hysterical, and banal." The skillful drawings on exhibit at Smokebrush are also full of Amundson's trademark satire and sharp humor.
Art Walk Opening Reception 5-8pm, Friday May 2nd. Gallery hours Saturday May 3rd from 12-5pm. Regular hours are Monday through Friday 12-5pm. Exhibition runs through May 23.

Saturday May 3 12:00 AM
Spring Creek is quickly gaining a reputation as the hottest young band in the Rocky Mountains. The quartet play a mix of bluegrass standards and compelling originals, and all four musicians are also accomplished vocalists. Spring Creek is built on the fundamentals of bluegrass, yet they create their own classic contemporary style. The young band, whose members met in music school in Texas, have studied and performed together for several years, creating a tight, polished sound. Spring Creek's members have a deep respect for tradition, as well as an innate sense of musical innovationTook first place in 2007 at Telluride Bluegrass Festival and the Planet Bluegrass Title at the 35th Annual Rocky Grass in Lyons.
